Like leaves carried swiftly on the breeze/ My cold feet carry me back to the beach/ With my hands held frozen at my sides/ Empty otherwise, my mind lost in your eyes/ Looking away for the very last time/ But it’s not like we both didn’t try// Like leaves scattered wildly on the street/ These pages of poetry, imperfect chemistry/ Line my floor with fiction and fact/ Topographical maps, these scars trace back and back/ And our flaws remain all intact/ But what’s so wrong with that
In the absence of a porch light, in the absence of a shore line
In the absence of your hello, I fall alone to goodbye
And some may say our dreams were born to die
Once thought so was I, but now I’m falling down from nine
Like leaves crowning courts in autumn/ In time we all come to fall down/ Learning how to bow/ before we learn how to reign/ The sound of my name on your lips/ Is the kiss of royalty spelt out in plain english/ So you can probably guess what my one wish is// Like leaves crunched beneath the soles on concrete/ We never knew defeat so sweet/ So farewell to creaking branches and deeper roots/ Pick the fairest fruit before the season is gone/ though the scent of the leaves on the breeze carries on in the winter wind’s wolf song
like leaves fall from trees at the breeze slightest brush/ couldn’t keep in touch, ‘cause it still hurt way too much/ and i think i see you everywhere but then of course i don’t/ think if i call, you might pick up but then of course you won’t/ ‘cause i may have run farther but you still ran harder/ and both of us have been running since before this started/ as the spring sun shines, i never once lost hope for the one called nine/ guess I forgot what I’ve been running from this whole time...
